I'm Doing Fieldwork, and I'd Like to Talk to You!
Hi Everyone! I have moved into the fieldwork stage of my thesis and am excited to put out a call for participants. If you or anyone you know would be interested in participating, please let me know! 🚢⚓️
--------------------------------------------
My name is Heather Elliott, and I am a graduate student in the Anthropology Department at Memorial University of Newfoundland. I am conducting a research project called “Gender in Shipbuilding and Fish Harvesting” for my master’s thesis, under the supervision of Dr. Robin Whitaker.
The purpose of the study is to examine gender consciousness and gendered experiences in the professional sectors of shipbuilding/vessel construction and fish harvesting.
If you are employed in either of these sectors and have been for between 5 to 20 years, I would like to invite you to participate in an interview. We will discuss a variety of topics, such as why you chose to enter this career, your experiences in the workplace, and whether and how you feel your gender has or has not affected your professional life.
All responses will be confidential, and all data will be anonymized prior to publication. Participation in this interview is not employment or a union requirement, and your involvement will not be reported to your superiors or other colleagues. We will conduct the interview at a location of your choice, requiring one to three hours of your time.
If you are interested in participating in this study, or you have any questions about myself or my project, please do not hesitate to contact me by email at hlelliott@mun.ca, by phone at (709) 986-4966.
If you know anyone who may be interested in participating in this study, please share this information with them.
Thank you in advance for considering my request,
Heather Elliott
